About
Abu Dhabi Sewerage Services Company, established in 2005, is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Abu Dhabi Government. It is responsible for the collection, treatment and disposal of wastewater discharged from residential, commercial and industrial buildings in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, and the distribution of recycled water for irrigation purposes in gardens, parks, farms and green spaces. Biosolids are also available for reuse. .
In 2009, Abu Dhabi Sewerage Services Company was separated from Abu Dhabi Water & Electricity Authority – ADWEA, and it became a subsidiary of the Executive Council of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
Abu Dhabi Sewerage Services Company continues to supply Abu Dhabi’s various municipalities with the recycled water for irrigation purposes contributing to a cleaner and safer environment in accordance with global standards and the latest scientific methods and techniques.
The company's responsibilities include the following activities:
- Wastewater collection, treatment and reuse;
- Solid waste treatment, and reuse
Under Resolution No. 17 of 2005 issued by the H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, president of United Arab Emirates in 21/06/2005, Abu Dhabi Sewerage Services Company was established in order to provide State-of-the-art waste-water treatment services in the field of sewage and sanitation. Services include the effective operation, refurbishment, and renewal of existing infrastructure, and the execution of new infrastructure projects in order to meet the increasing demand due to population growth in accordance with the most up-to-date international environmental regulations and standards. ADSSC collects and treats waste-water discharged from all residential and commercial entities in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and safely disposes of both the solid and liquid waste.
ADSSC’s wastewater treatment plants serve the entire region of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi including Al Ain and the Western Region. In some locations the current sewerage infrastructure is overloaded due to the increased growth in urban population. Rehabilitation, refurbishment, renewal and construction of requisite infrastructure are essential in order to meet the current and future requirements.
The Abu Dhabi Sewerage Services Company provides the municipalities in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi with Recycled Water for the purposes of irrigation of gardens, parks and green spaces. More than 60% of the available recycled water is used for irrigation purposes, thereby, contributing towards environmental preservation. In the future, 100% of the available recycled water will be reused.
